Sign the One Paseo Petition, Vote for a smaller alternative!
Nearly 300 people have signed the One Paseo Petition in the last week because they believe this project is too big for Carmel Valley. We are not against development, but the project should fit into the community, and shouldn't punish existing residents with gridlock, overly tall buildings, park impacts and more. Kilroy has consistently misrepresented this project to the community to gain support, showing images of the limited open space and few low-rise buildings, where the vast majority of the buildings are 5 stories or taller! Whether or not I agree with what appers on the petition, I will not sign any document without knowing who createed. Naming a committee does not tell usw anything about its au thors. Please provide those names and/or organizations for the public as a paart of your "ask" for support. There are many good aspects of the proposal. Not the least of them is providing our community with the every day/every week businesses for which all of us now create traffic in our drives to Solana Beach, Encinnitas, and La Jolla Village because we lack so many basic services. An assortment of restaurants and boutique shops is lovely but few of those which exist in Del Mar Highlands and Piazza Carmel centers are the every day necessity shops. We could reduce our daily trips many fold if we were to have these shops. Live/work spaces being proposed also are ideal for older community members who want to remain in the comununity but have found that almost impossible when we can no longer drive. A family movie house such as was closed in nearby Flower Hill and stamped out by the "upscaling" of the theater in Highlands Center. Kids need some places to "play" also. That doesn't mean we must give in to the high rise office buildings but this is the only space in the center of the community. it is a space we will never regain once it is built, so lets work to get it built and insist that it be a quality of life enhancement for all of us.
Please publish the names of the petitioin authors. Marilyn Herman, Palacio Del Mar
