Two of the Carmel Valley Community Planning Board's Subcommittes meet this week: MAD on Tuesday, and Regional Issues on Wednesday. The Maintenance Assessment District (MAD) subcommittee will meet on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 4:30 pm at the Carmel Valley Rec Center. Download the CV MAD Agenda here. MAD will discuss the 2014 budget, trees at Carmel Country and Del Mar Trails, and a proposal by the City to convert passive parks into active use parks. The Regional Issues Subcommittee (RIS) will meet on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 4:30 pm at the CV LIBRARY. Download the CV RIS Agenda here. The RIS meeting will discuss the St. John Garabed Armenian Church in the river valley, and a proposed expansion of the All Creatures Veterinary Hospital near Mary's Tack. There will be Trick or treating at Piazza Carmel on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Stores will be passing out treats and special offers (see piazza-carmel.com). At the Town Center, the Trick or Treating is on Oct 31, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, with live music by Left4Dead, in the lower plaza (see delmarhighlandstowncenter.com). Again, for your dogs, Dirty Dogs at the Torrey Hills Center (see torreyhillscenter.com) has a costume contests with categories for pups, kids and the whole family, 10/27 from 2-5pm.

The Carmel Valley Community Planning Board will hold it's regular monthly meeting on October 25, 2012 from 7:00 to 10:00 pm at the Carmel Valley Library, 3919 Townsgate Drive. The October Agenda is attached. The Agenda includes a One Paseo update from the City, a presentation on the San Dieguito School District bond proposition, information on St. Garabed Church (in the river valley off of El Camino Real), information on the Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch (a new shopping center to our East), consideration of Via de la Valley road improvements, cell installations at Del Mar Polo and in Del Mar Mesa, and the possiblity of adding parking on High Bluff Drive (in the business park). I see from the Carmel Valley News that Chevy's Fresh Mex is leaving the Flower Hill Mall on Via de la Valle (see the CVN Story, Chevys to close after 20 years), to be replaced by a Cucina Enoteca (a sister to Cucina Urbana, see www.cucinaenoteca.com). From the Cucina Enoteca site: The restaurant’s interior evokes a modern kitchen combined with the history and comfort of an old rustic country farmhouse. A touch of home, splash of bohemia and many objects new and old attract the eye. A focus on natural and reclaimed material is found throughout... Whimsical expressions of Italian classics coupled with the use of the freshest local produce, organic and sustainable products comprise a diverse menu of items mostly at or below $20. This sounds like a great replacement for the old Papachino's restaurant. It will be interesting to see what else is updated as the new Whole Foods opens early next year.
 

Don't forget, there's a free concert tonight (Oct 10 - Americana by Border Radio) at the CV Library, and another on Oct 27! The Friends of the Library just sent more information on the Oct 27 concert, the Fan Faire Foundation Musicians, which you can read at the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library website or the CV Library Concert page. Oct 27 is a concert from the “Kids Playing for Kids” program, which was launched in October 2011. It enables musically gifted children to express and share their love of music with other children, further develop their creative skills, and build their self-confidence as performers. Concerts start at 7:00 pm and last 45 minutes. The Library is located at 3919 Townsgate Drive in Carmel Valley, San Diego. I've heard rumors about crazy gas prices over the next two weeks in Southern California due to refinery outages around the state. That is, there will likely be a temporary shortage of gas that could cause huge short-term price spikes and some stations running out. You might want to top off your tank and keep an eye on prices, using sites like San Diego Gas Prices (Gas Buddy). Note that I've also read that gas prices should be significantly lower by next month...

The Carmel Valley 5k and Kids Fun Run is scheduled for December 8, 2012. The race, which starts and ends at Carmel Del Mar Elementary School, and extends along the beautiful CVREP* trail, benefits the Del Mar Schools Education Foundation (DMSEF). From the race info: This run will highlight the beauty of Carmel Valley and the people within our community by running part of the course along the 56 bike trail! The DMSEF is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) that supports the Del Mar Union School District. The Foundation was founded to raise the necessary funds to provide Del Mar students with enrichment programs such as science, music, art, technology and physical education. The Retail Management company Donahue Schriber has recently purchased the Vons Center just across the I-5 freeway in Del Mar (called "Del Mar Heights Village", located at Del Mar Heights Road and Mango Drive.) This is the center with a small Vons, a CVS Pharmacy and a Jack in the Box. They're looking at updating the property, and want your input! From the press release: "Donahue Schriber has launched an online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DMHV to gather input from the community on the current amenities and to find out what other stores, eateries or services the public would like to see at Del Mar Heights Village in the future.
