Rocco's Hair Design: Closing May 31, 2012

The Town Center is busy updating it's look, and Rocco's Hair Design is the latest casualty. The Del Mar Highlands location, which has been in operation for 20 years, will be closing its doors on May 31, 2012. Jeanette, one of Rocco's stylists, gave me this message to pass on: "The Rocco's stylists (Hortie, Vanessa, Kim and Martha) will be joining The California Cuts at the Von's/ Souplantation  center on June 1, 2012.  The California Cuts has also been serving the Carmel Valley/Del Mar area for over 20 years!  We are family owned and operated, believe in top stylists charging reasonable prices, we keep a large staff on and make appointments so our clients don't have long waits.  We are looking forward to adding the talented stylists from Rocco's with our exceptional team." So, if you've worked with one of the Rocco's stylists for many years, you'll find them at The California Cuts (www.thecaliforniacuts.com) at Piazza Carmel.

Red Robin, we'll miss you.

While I'll enjoy having Casa de Bandini at the Town Center (see story here), I'll also miss Red Robin. Over the years, we've enjoyed many meals there, and as one of the few family-oriented restaurants in the community, I'm sorry to see it go. I understand their last day is this Sunday, May 27, 2012. You have one last week to visit before it's gone.

CV Planning Board May 24 Meeting at the CV Middle School

CV Planning MapThe Carmel Valley Planning Board has announced that the May 24, 2012 meeting will be at the Carmel Valley Middle School located at 3800 Mykonos Lane, San Diego, CA 92130 in the Performing Arts Center at 7:00 pm. That's good, because the larger venue will allow additional people to attend, although the parking at the Middle School can be terrible. Arrive early to find a parking spot! I don't have the agenda yet, but at least the board's One Paseo DEIR comment letter will be heard. I'll post the information when it's available. I encourage everyone to learn more about this project, both at the developer's One Paseo site, which paints a rosy view, and at the "What Price Main Street" site, which is concerned about impacts to the community.

Sign the One Paseo Petition, Vote for a smaller alternative!

One PaseoNearly 300 people have signed the One Paseo Petition in the last week because they believe this project is too big for Carmel Valley. We are not against development, but the project should fit into the community, and shouldn't punish existing residents with gridlock, overly tall buildings, park impacts and more. Kilroy has consistently misrepresented this project to the community to gain support, showing images of the limited open space and few low-rise buildings, where the vast majority of the buildings are 5 stories or taller! Join us at WhatPriceMainStreet.com, or sign our Online Petition at Change.org -- we're working to create a better Carmel Valley.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day 2012

Prescription Drug Take Back DayFrom the San Diego County Sherrif's Department, "It’s time to clean out your medicine cabinet and get rid of old and unwanted prescription drugs. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department will collect and safely dispose unwanted or expired medicines as part of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) fourth National Prescription Drug Take Back Day." This gets drugs out of the community, away from children and teens, and keeps the chemicals out of the landfills and oceans. You can find drop-off locations and additional information by looking at the Drug Take Back Day Web Page, however, we are fortunate enough to have a permanent drop-off location at the Carmel Valley Police Substation! Carmel Valley's Prescripton Drug Drop-off Location is at 12592 El Camino Real, right across from the CV Rec Center. The drop-off point is a "mailbox" behind the fence adjacent to the station entrance. Just reach through the bars and place old prescription drugs into the box.
