Prop AA leaps ahead, good for San Dieguito Schools

For the first time, the Prop AA bond for the San Dieguito Schools has pushed above the required 55% threshold, with 55.16% voting YES. While you may be concerned about the cost of the bonds, this should be good for the public education system in Carmel Valley, which has some very successful and very crowded schools. The Registrar of Voters for San Diego County (see www.SDVote.com) has updated its vote count again, and as of Nov 16 at 4:25 PM, Prop AA is ahead. The count is not complete, but things look good for passage.

Her email is nhone@pd.sandiego.gov, and her phone numbers are: (d) 858-523-7031, or (f) 858-523-7023. Officer Hone will be maintaining the old email contact list (email her to be added), or you can now view the SDPD Northwestern Facebook page, or the new SDPD Northwestern Twitter feed.

Election Update: Prop AA Closer, but not quite (yet)

The Registrar of Voters for San Diego County (see www.SDVote.com) has updated its vote counts twice now, on Thursday and Friday (they've said they'll have updates every day at 5:00 PM, I don't know about weekends...) Update: New results as of Nov 14 at 4:25 PM. If you want to keep up-to-date on the numbers, ignore all the news sites and go straight to SDVote.com and follow the "Election Results" links. Be sure to refresh the results page to get the latest numbers! Currently, all of the results are unchanged, but Prop AA (San Dieguito School Bonds) is getting very close to the 55% required for passage. Immediately after the election, it was at 54.47%, now it's at 54.63% (only 0.37%, or about 200 votes short or passage.) If the trend continues, it could pass by the slightest of margins. Unfortunately, this is too close to call. FWIW, on Wednesday, there were 475,000 ballots to count, then 375,000 on Thursday, and now 325,000 remaining on Friday. It could be another week or more before the counting finishes. As of Nov 12 at 4:35 PM, there are now 260,000 ballots remaining, and Prop AA is 54.74% Yes. As of Nov 13 at 4:39 PM, there are now 210,000 ballots remaining, and Prop AA is 54.87% Yes. As of Nov 14 at 4:25 PM, there are now 160,000 ballots remaining, and Prop AA is 54.94% Yes. For the first time, the count has moved back -- As of Nov 15 at 4:25 PM, there are now 120,000 ballots remaining, and Prop AA is 54.92% Yes (55% required for passage.)

Chevy's is leaving Flower Hill Mall

I see from the Carmel Valley News that Chevy's Fresh Mex is leaving the Flower Hill Mall on Via de la Valle (see the CVN Story, Chevys to close after 20 years), to be replaced by a Cucina Enoteca (a sister to Cucina Urbana, see www.cucinaenoteca.com). From the Cucina Enoteca site: The restaurant’s interior evokes a modern kitchen combined with the history and comfort of an old rustic country farmhouse. A touch of home, splash of bohemia and many objects new and old attract the eye. A focus on natural and reclaimed material is found throughout... Whimsical expressions of Italian classics coupled with the use of the freshest local produce, organic and sustainable products comprise a diverse menu of items mostly at or below $20. This sounds like a great replacement for the old Papachino's restaurant. It will be interesting to see what else is updated as the new Whole Foods opens early next year.

Crazy gas prices this weekend?

I've heard rumors about crazy gas prices over the next two weeks in Southern California due to refinery outages around the state. That is, there will likely be a temporary shortage of gas that could cause huge short-term price spikes and some stations running out. You might want to top off your tank and keep an eye on prices, using sites like San Diego Gas Prices (Gas Buddy). Note that I've also read that gas prices should be significantly lower by next month...

Great list of Halloween Events from the North County Times

The North County Times has a great List of Halloween Events in San Diego! See their article, "GO BOO! A month of activities and attractions for Halloween thrills, chills". The list includes film frights, haunted attractions, spooky tours, pumpkin patches & corn mazes, halloween fun, and theme parks. This is everything from SeaWorld's "Halloween Spooktacular" to our local "Scream Zone" at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. About the only things I don't see on the list are the "Haunted Birch Aquarium" at Scripps, and "Halloween Time" at Disneyland (note that this weekend, Oct 5-7, is also "Gay Days" at Disneyland -- very crowded but colorful!) Finally, I've also recently heard about the Barbarella restaurant in La Jolla, which is all decked out for Halloween! Have fun!
